Emiily Bunn, Guest Contributor The Emory & Henry College baseball team travelled to Shenandoah University for a Saturday double-header. The Hornets collected two wins in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener against the Wasps with a 15-0 win in the first game and a 7-2 win in the second. According to GoWasps, Shenandoah raced ahead in the bottom of the first inning with a 5-0 lead. The Hornets raised the score to 9-0 after gaining one run in the second and three more in the fourth.

Alexis Morrill, Guest Contributor POPLAR, N.C. — On Saturday, March 7, members of the Adventure Team packed up their boats and drove to North Carolina for a quick trip down the Nolichucky River. The team and their instructors paddled 8 miles of class 3-4 rapids in freezing, early March temperatures. While paddling in cold weather may seem crazy to some, it is normal for the team during this time of year. Sophomore Adventure Team member, Matthew Kinkead, said, “I feel like being out in the winter is definitely more challenging. It definitely pushes me out of my comfort zone which, [you] know, has helped me in the long run.” Matt has been on the team since his freshman year and is an avid kayaker.
Luke Montalbano, Sports Writer LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Emory & Henry men’s and women’s golf team traveled up north to Lynchburg to compete in the Hill City Invitational, hosted by the University of Lynchburg. This year’s event took place at Boonsboro Country Club. The women’s team would compete as individuals, while the men’s team collectively took seventh place.
Cam Derr, Sports Writer TUCSON, Ariz. — The softball team traveled to Tucson, AZ this past week to compete in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Leadoff Classic. The Wasps faced elite teams, including No.15 ranked Mary-Hardin Baylor, Claremont Mudd-Scripps and No.5 Illinois Wesleyan and Pacific Lutheran. Their final game against Emerson was canceled due to inclement weather conditions.
Alexa Shockley, News Writer EMORY, Va.– Emory & Henry’s men’s basketball team traveled to Ferrum College on Tuesday, Feb. 25, for the first round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament and were defeated with a score of 87-84. The game was close with a score of 45-40 Ferrum in the first half and a score of 44-42 E&H in the second half, according to GoWasps. Ferrum entered the tournament's first game 7th-seeded, while Emory & Henry entered 10th-seeded. Head Men’s Basketball Coach Ben Thompson said E&H’s team entered feeling “pretty good, cause we’ve been playing well the last two or three weeks of the season."
Meg Doody, Sports Writer This weekend, the Emory & Henry men’s and women’s tennis teams competed for the first time for the spring season. On Saturday, both teams traveled to Spartanburg Methodist College for an exhibition match, and both teams were able to come out on top with a final score of 9-0 for the women’s team and 8-1 for the men's team. On Sunday, both the men’s and the women’s teams returned home for their first competitive spring season match-up against William Peace University. Both teams again came out on top, with the women having a final score of 9-0 and men with a final score of 7-2.
Mason Carroll, Guest Contributor SALEM, Va. — This weekend, both the men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams traveled to Salem, VA to Roanoke College for this year’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships. This year's contest would conclude the college’s second year of participation in the sport of track and field. The competition resulted in the men’s team taking seventh place, and in achieving this placement, they broke four different school records. Along with the men, two women who competed this weekend for Emory & Henry broke records as well.
Luke Montalbano, Sports Writer SALEM, Va.– The Emory & Henry women’s basketball team entered the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament as the number one overall seed in the tournament. They finished the regular season with a 21-4 record, and 15-3 mark in ODAC play. The Wasps knocked off eighth seeded University of Lynchburg in the quarterfinals, but fell short to Randolph-Macon College in the semifinals.

Preseason is officially over and the season began this past weekend with their first scheduled game on Saturday, Feb. 8 being cancelled due to inclement weather. The team's second and third exhibition games were against Montreat College in North Carolina on Sunday. According to GoWasps, the preseason ranked the team as second in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rankings with 85 points, right behind Virginia Wesleyan University in first with 99 points and above University of Lynchburg in third with 84 points.
Luke Montalbano, Sports Writer GREENSBORO, N.C. – Last Sunday marked the end of Emory & Henry head men’s and women’s swimming coach Cody Skinner’s fourth season at the helm of the program. Both teams traveled to Greensboro, NC to compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Swimming Championships at the Greensboro Aquatics Center. This weekend marked the end of the collegiate swimming careers of Nick Barr (Chilhowie, Va.), Jarod Bracero (Hoboken, N.J), Lauren Trotter (Bristol, Va.) and Olivia Anson (Apex, N.C). The women’s team would finish in sixth place while the men’s team would take seventh place.
