Luke Montalbano, Sports Writer LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Emory & Henry men’s and women’s golf team traveled up north to Lynchburg to compete in the Hill City Invitational, hosted by the University of Lynchburg. This year’s event took place at Boonsboro Country Club. The women’s team would compete as individuals, while the men’s team collectively took seventh place. Junior Wesley Jones (Seymour, Tenn.) shot 83 in the first round and 79 in the second round, tying for 17th place. Junior Isfandyar Khan (Lahore, Pakistan) shot 81 in both rounds to also tie for 17th. Junior Chris Schaff (Elizabethton, Tenn.) fired an 83 in the first round and an 85 in the second round to take 32nd place. Junior Blake Benson (Knoxville, Tenn.) shot an 86 the first day and a 91 the second day to finish in 39th place. Freshman Chase Maddox (Amherst, Va.) shot 95 the first day and 91 the second day to finish in 48th place. The team shot 333 the first day and 336 the second day. For the women’s team, junior Chandler Thomas (Stony Creek, Tenn.) shot 110 the first day and 98 the second day to finish in 12th place. Senior Ashley Underwood (Strawberry Plains, Tenn.) fired a 112 the first day and a 97 the second day to finish in 13th place. Methodist University’s B Team won the event, with a team score of 307 the first day and a team score of 303 the second day, good enough to beat Averett University by five shots. Averett’s Elias Haavisto took medalist honors, going six-under par for the week, including a 67 in the second round. On the women’s side, University of Lynchburg would claim first place in their home event, firing a team score of 336 the first round and 332 the second round. Lynchburg’s NoraNöel Nolan took medalist honors with an 83 the first round and an 80 the second round. This week was the first of four events this spring for both teams. This year’s spring schedule is featured with the Sting in the Spring Invitational Fox Fire Resort in Jackson Springs, North Carolina on April 9–10, which is E&H’s home event. This year’s conference championship will return to Wintergreen Resort in Nellysford, Virginia on April 19–21. This year, the men’s team is picked to finish in ninth place in the conference. Both teams will return to action during spring break when they travel to Virginia Beach to compete in the Marlin Invitational on March 21–22.
