Mark Finney, Faculty Advisor “There’s never been a black cop in this city. We think you might be the one to open things up around here…” These first words of the trailer for BlacKkKlansman (2018) introduce a film that promises to be tense, funny and almost certainly timely. Set in Colorado Springs, Co., this “based on a true story” film dramatizes the experiences of Ron Stallworth (played by David Washington) – the first black police officer in the Colorado Springs police department. Stalworth and a Jewish colleague (played by Adam Driver) infiltrate and expose the local KKK organization.

Isabella Katherine McCall, Columnist Many a Scotsman have sat down with family and friends on the evening of Jan. 25 to eat and listen to a lengthy poem by Scottish nationalist and poet, Robert Burns. It is on this night, called Burns Night, that this poem and the traditional dish it addresses are celebrated. The poem “An Address to Haggis,” written by Burns in 1787, is not a regular poem about any dramatic human emotions; it is about an equally dramatic dish: haggis.
Melody Lipford, Columnist Towards this point in the semester, students have become used to their new schedules and routines. This may include a myriad of classes, activities, clubs, responsibilities, sports and jobs that take up most of one’s time during the week. While I believe it is important to be involved with campus life and activities, it is also vital to try and create a balance between all of these, along with practicing a normal habit of self-care. As cliche and overused as the term “self-care” has become in modern society, the importance of the actual concept should still not be diminished.
