Amy Lemco, Arts & Life Editor Life After Life follows Ursula Todd from the day she was born – born for the first time, and then again and again. Each time Ursula encounters an untimely end, she begins life anew, following a timeline that ultimately stretches from 1910-1967. Melody Lipford, Columnist As I enter my last semester at Emory & Henry, I can say that I’ve learned a thing or two when it comes to juggling all of the responsibilities and activities in the day to day life as a college student. Throughout my semesters here, I have learned better ways to balance all of my requirements, while at the same time trying to enjoy my college experience. I still struggle with fitting everything I would like to do in one day, but am able to be more forgiving with myself and realize the importance of self-care throughout my journey as a student at Emory & Henry.
Bethany Lockhart, Guest Contributor White Birch Food & Juice is a small restaurant in Abingdon, Virginia. It is located on Main Street in a small, quaint building near the Abingdon Olive Oil Company and the Washington County Courthouse. White Birch, which is what it is most commonly referred as, sells food, as well as fresh-pressed juices made from local produce from approximately 15 local farms. Nicole Dyer, the owner of the restaurant, began her business venture in November 2014 inside of the “Whole Health Center.” It started as a business that only sold fresh-pressed juices, and as it grew, they started to sell food as well.
Archer Nave Marlow For millennia, it has been the purpose of journalism and journalists to inform the public of both internal and external activities of the state. The origin of published journalism can be traced to the Han Dynasty (206 BC- 220 AD); however, these bulletins were not to be viewed by the common masses but instead for government officials. The same is true for 16th-century Venice. It would not be until the invention and implementation of the printing press that the privately owned newspapers would first begin to spread into societies, which gave journalists a landscape and medium to use.
Kiara Barbour, Guest Contributor I have mixed feelings about the arrival of immigrants to the United States. I think that it is horrible to see how the immigrants live. I think that it is impossible for Americans to live like immigrants. Americans have too much pride. Americans can never imagine about how life is like for immigrants. I think that immigrants can be very wonderful people. The media says that “the immigrants are killer or very bad people in general.”

Elysia Moreta, Columnist Kale is popularly called a “superfood.” It is packed with vitamins! Kale contains strong antioxidants that help with the common cold and compounds that help to prevent eye ailments like macular degeneration and cataracts. It contains more Omega-3 fatty acids than any other vegetable and provides insoluble fiber that most Americans are not getting enough of.
Amy Lemco, Arts & Life Editor Kale is not only good sautéed in any dish you can imagine or used to give a veggie boost to a smoothie, kale makes great chips! It will take on any flavor, so you can make them basic with salt and olive oil; asian with soy sauce and sesame oil; southwestern with cumin, chili and garlic; or even faux nachos by adding nutritional yeast to the southwestern spice blend. (I do not know why, but nutritional yeast has a nutty/cheesy flavor. I swear.)
