Isabella McCall, Columnist Every morning, the Emory & Henry campus is graced by a small being that leaves a big impact. This small being is a Scottish Terrier by the name “Bonny” – or as her registered name calls her “Wee Bonny Lass of Emory” – and she plays a huge part in keeping the E&H morale alive. Called the “Unofficial Mayor of Emory,” “Bonny Blue,” “Bonster,” “Bonita,” “Scooby” and “Great Chieftain of the Sausage Race,” Bonny lives with her Auntie Monica just off of campus and takes morning and afternoon walks all around the campus. Originally Bonny was given as a gift and lived with her mother, the great and famous Margaret Hutson – founder of the E&H Athletic Training Program, E&H Sports Hall of Fame member, volleyball coach for E&H and basketball coach for the famous Lady Vols. Sadly, Hutson passed away, so Bonny now honors Monica with her presence. During Bonny’s walks, she visits many places such as the Alumni and Advancement Office, the Library, the Ampersand Center and the Athletic Training Center. In each of these places, she works her magic (or mind control) to get everyone to feed her treats of her choosing; she’s stubborn and picky, so people have to experiment with what treats will appease her.
Bonny has many unique traits, including her love for fresh chopped carrots, her constant and unending stare that lets everyone around her know she is judging them as they speak and her ability to tell time (like when it’s time to wake up, when it's time for her morning walk, when it's time for her lunchtime walk and when it’s time to go to bed... at 8:30 PM). Despite her withering gaze, Bonny loves people! Any chance she has to surround herself with people, especially E&H people, she takes!
